Rapid Thinning Hair: How To Treat Hair Loss Before It's Too Late

thinning hair male pattern hair loss young manWhilst some may associate male pattern hair loss (which is the reason behind 95% of hair loss in men) with a gradual thinning towards a ‘bald spot‘ or a receding hairline that only becomes very noticeable as men reach middle age, hair loss often does not occur in this way.

For instance, androgenic alopecia can onset at any point after puberty in young men, and once it starts, thinning can occur relatively quickly. At Belgravia, we see many patients in their twenties, and even some in their late teens. For some of these men, the aim will be to halt hair loss that may be barely noticeable before it progresses, and to regrow the thinning area using a clinically proven hair loss treatment plan.

A 20′s Thing?

However, for some men, hair loss will progress relatively quickly, in some cases worsening noticeably each month. This is naturally very alarming, and the first step is to establish that the hair loss is genetic, as supposed to conditions like telogen effluvium, which can result in sudden shedding but which will tend to grow back without treatment.

Once a hair loss specialist has established that the cause of the shedding is pattern hair loss, a treatment plan should be started as soon as possible in order to halt the rate of loss and potentially regrow thinning areas. There are two clinically proven medications that can help and which have been licensed by the MHRA and approved by the FDA for treating hair loss.

The first of these, Propecia, blocks DHT, the androgen hormone which causes pattern hair loss by miniaturising the hair follicles atop the scalp. Propecia is most effective at halting hair loss atop the scalp and on the crown. However, Propecia is not very effective for treating the hairline, which is where the second medication comes is useful.

Minoxidil, a topical treatment, works by stimulating new hair growth, even in damaged or rapidly balding areas, as long as there is some degree of hair still remaining. As is clear from Belgravia’s large collection of before and during treatment photographs, minoxidil can regrow a significant amount of hair in just a few months.

Tailoring Treatment

Whilst Propecia comes in a standard dose, minoxidil can be varied according to your individual case, and for stubborn hair loss a high strength minoxidil cream that includes added ingredients that appear to help block DHT can be effective where over-the-counter formulations have failed.

Belgravia’s bespoke treatment plans include not only medication, but a variety of hair growth boosters that ensure both existing hair and regrowth is healthy and looking its best. Boosters include the FDA cleared LaserComb and the nutritional supplement Hair Vitalics, which combine to ensure a comprehensive approach.
