There is a big scare occurring in the states regarding a few recent measles outbreaks, including one in Texas thought to be ‘started’ by a group of unvaccinated church members. The blame for the appearance of the virus is resting on one family who took an over-seas trip, supposedly bringing the measles back and passing it around their church, largely populated with those who have felt it unhealthy to vaccinate their children. In the world of natural medicine, measles is known to be a natural cleansing crisis for a young immune system which has been exposed to toxins and a poor diet. It is rarely fatal – only in .02% of cases. The measles vaccine, however, carries very serious risks.
The common side-effects of the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine (MMR) are, as taken from the National Vaccine Information Center website: “low-grade fever, skin rash, itching, hives, swelling, reddening of skin, and weakness. Reported serious adverse reactions following MMR vaccination include seizures, brain inflammation and encephalopathy; thrombocytopenia; joint, muscle and nerve pain; gastrointestinal disorders; measles like rash; conjunctivitis and other serious health problems (including death)” There have been, as of March 2012, 898 claims of injury and death caused by the vaccine and a confirmed 56 deaths, 842 serious injuries and 6,058 “serious adverse effects.”
The information about vaccine harm has largely been buried. Even those people who experience an obvious correlation between a child’s death or serious health reaction immediately following a vaccine, receive little in the way of support, confirmation or belief from the medical industry. These cases are written off in the name of the “greater good” and swept under the carpet. But, here we have a small number of cases of measles – only 222 in all of 2011, 54 in 2012 and roughly 134 with the new ‘outbreaks’ this year so far, and we are suddenly condemning those who choose not to vaccinate for fear of the very small risk that someone will be fatally injured by this ailment.
It is true, measles can be serious in certain vulnerable age groups, such as infants and those with already weak immune systems. Infants and those with weaker immune systems are always more susceptible to more serious reactions, including to vaccines. Bodies were designed to heal themselves, and if left to do so, with proper support, many of these illnesses could release built up toxins and leave the body better than before. Instead, we have allowed fear to take over on the very real premise that most people are ill-equipped to handle a true ‘cleansing crisis.’ Look what happens when people first attempt to do a cleanse or a fast.
When a body goes without regular food or liquid, as in the case of a fast or illness, the body naturally starts to dump stored toxins into the blood stream for removal. This action doesn’t feel great, in fact – you are sure to feel worse before you feel better. Most people cannot make it through the crud, and therefore choose to block it, stop it or suppress the body’s need to detox by taking medications, or eating again. This only delays a much required process. Someday, somehow, your body is going to need to find a way to rid itself of all the toxins it’s been storing.
Most of us are carrying around loads of toxins from environmental pollutants, chemicals and preservatives in our foods and beauty care products, drug residues, hormones from our meat, negative emotions and buried or repressed feelings. We eat so much packaged, processed and chemically-laden food that our organs are over taxed. An EWG study has reported nearly 300 toxins are widely found in the blood stream of infants “including mercury, fire retardants, pesticides, and Teflon chemicals.” What if these ‘childhood illnesses’ are attempting to balance a tiny body in a system that is largely feeding it toxins?
Natural remedies have been found effective for soothing a measles infection including tumeric, licorice root, oranges and lemon juice. These things all help to rid the body of toxins quicker and tone down the discomfort, itching and swelling. From the Natural Cures website out of the United Kingdom, where they experience higher rates of measles, though treat it naturally and without panic, the cause for measles is detailed as “Measles is thus a natural healing crisis aimed at cleansing the infant organism of the toxins and deleterious products resulting from the assimilation of the vast excess of starchy and sugary foods consumed by young children today.”
Since measles is a virus, natural anti-virals are recommended, especially if you know you have been exposed and are not immunized. Herbs such as olive leaf, oregano oil and astragalus root are helpful in warding off the virus. Though it is contagious, many people have been vaccinated, so it is really just the growing population of unvaccinated children and their parents who need know this information.
There is no reason to fear or place blame on those experiencing the adventure of measles in this country. There are greater side-effects to be wary of from taking Tylenol, anti-histamines and anti-fungal medications. Fluconazole, a common anti-fungal routinely given to children has side-effect warnings such as rashes, vomiting, diarrhea, liver problems and heart rhythm problems. Sounds pretty serious. Omeprazole, another common childhood medication is given to kids experiencing acid reflux, which could be easily treated with raw apple cider vinegar. Instead, takers of this strong drug risk side effects such as upper respiratory tract infections, diarrhea, skin rashes, ear infections, liver problems and blood disorders.
The point is, there are worse things than measles. They are being blown up right now to try and emphasize vaccinations, which are really more dangerous than measles. If you want a shocker to make you question giving your little one the measles vaccine read this story.
In the meantime, rest well in the knowledge that the body can utilize certain perceived ailments in order to cleanse and realign itself. In many of these cases, such as measles, we need to re-learn how to work with the body in order to make the most of the process. Supporting the natural cleansing crisis that measles is bringing about is the best way to move through it with success and peace. And for those who have been vaccinated, there’s nothing to concern yourself with. As for the ‘outbreaks’ – they are just more statistics and blown up news coverage.
