JOB INTRODUCTION


The Clackamas County department of Public and Government Affairs is currently seeking a Community Affairs Supervisor who will serve as a key member of the Public Affairs team. The incumbent will help develop strategic communication, citizen involvement and public outreach plans for the County and will then lead a team to implement those plans. Duties will encompass all aspects of a robust public affairs division for a high-profile local government.


The Community Affairs Supervisor is responsible for identifying sensitive or controversial issues related to department programs and activities that may be of interest to the general public, County Administration or PGA. Incumbents plan, organize and supervise the formulation of effective communication plans for review with PGA and County Administration. Incumbents will keep departments compliant with countywide public information, media relations, and public outreach policy and develops department processes and procedures for effectively and consistently communicating department’s programs and mission to citizens and groups.


Successful candidates will possess knowledge and/or experience in the following areas:


– Excellent oral and written communication skills

– Experience working with volunteers, citizens and community leaders

– Experience leading and managing teams

– Superb customer service skills

– Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

– Ability to multitask and prioritize projects, while producing quality work within time constraints and competing deadlines


PREFERRED:


– The most competitive candidates will possess some or all of the following knowledge and/or experience:


– Education and/or previous experience with one or more of the following: media relations, digital communications, publications, internal and external communications, citizen involvement, public participation and outreach, strategic communications, working with elected officials.


– Understanding of a public sector organization and function of local government departments and agencies


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:


Applicants for this position must meet the requirements of the County’s Driving Policy. DES will conduct a driving record check prior to finalizing any employment offer or departments may offer employment contingent on receiving a successful driving record check.

Oral Board Panel Interviews & Written Exercise are tentatively scheduled during the week of April 8, 2013. Candidates invited to this step of the process will be asked to bring copies of their cover letter and resume.


Final Selection Interviews are anticipated to take place during the week of April 15, 2013. Candidates invited to the final selection interviews will be asked to bring copies of their cover letter and resume to the interview.


WORK SCHEDULE


This position is included in the County’s alternate workweek program, working 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Thursday (Fridays off). Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.

Salary:
Annual: $63,024 – $85,084 (Plus Excellent Benefits)
