James and Joyce Quinn have been named Slimming World’s Couple of the Year 2013 after losing their huge weight. The married couple, from Irvine, North Ayrshire, have dropped more than 20st between them, gaining a ‘second chance’ at love. Mr Quinn struggled with his weight after being redundant from his job as a sports instructor two decades ago. At his heaviest he weighed more than 27st. The father-of-four and grandfather-of-one said the weight put a strain on his family life. The turning point came when the 45-year-old man got measured for a kilt for his niece’s wedding and discovered his waist was 62″, the biggest size available. Soon afterwards in March 2011 his niece invited him along to his local Slimming World group in Irvine. His wife and their four children pledged to support him. Inspired by his success of losing 12st (76 kg) in just 12 months, Joyce decided to join him. The Quinns have now swapped a diet of sausages, bacon and potato scones fried in oil for fresh fruit and fat-free yoghurt. They are also being more active in order to keep the weight off.

James Quinn was 10 stone (63.5kg) at his marriage time 27 years ago but he started to put on weight after losing his job. The former fitness instructor’s deadly diet of fried breakfasts, fast food, crisps and chocolate saw him balloon to a morbidly obese 27-and- a-half stone.
The couple, from Irvine, North Ayrshire, signed up to weight loss classes and have shed a remarkable 20 stones between them on Slimming World diet plans.
Joyce and James Quinn were celebrating their weight loss during a photocall at in London. They looked like enjoying a second honeymoon.
Mr Quinn has lost 30ins from his waist. His wife, who joined in the diet regime, has also shed six dress sizes. She has dropped 4st 5lbs to 10st 13lbs and from a size 18 to a size 12.
