Guttate Psoriasis – Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment …

Causes for Guttate Psoriasis

The primary cause of guttate psoriasis may be due to the immune system reaction provoked by a streptococcal infection or any other kind of infection. As we know, the immune system makes white blood cells, which protects the body from harmful attacks of foreign invaders causing infection. In case of psoriasis, the T cells, a type of white blood cells, abnormally triggers some inflammation in the skin surface and causes production of excess skin cells.

Almost eighty percent of the patients suffering from this disease have the above-mentioned streptococcal infection, which is mostly in the form of tonsillopharyngitis. In some cases, many viral infections like chicken pox, cold, rubella, and roseola may also causes the outbreak of this form of psoriasis.

Diagnosis

   Symptoms

   •  Small sized dots in pink or red in colour occur suddenly usually

two to three weeks after the streptococcal infection.

   •  These drops usually itch.

   •  These outbreaks generally occur in the arms, legs and sometimes  spread to the face and ears.

Treatment of Guttate Psoriasis

Individuals, who have guttate psoriasis, undergo antibiotic treatment in order to treat the strep throat. This is important because if the strep throat is not treated, it may lead to rheumatic fever, which can be life threatening. It also weakens the heart and causes various kinds of kidney damage. The rash of this psoriasis is normally treated with steroid creams and thick and emollient moisturizer for skin. This relieves the itching greatly.

Under majority of the cases, guttate psoriasis goes away in few weeks without any treatment, but if still it lingers, immediate medical attention is required.
