How To Stop UnderArm Sweat

Excessive underarm sweating AKA axillary hyperhidrosis, is not something to be concerned with as far as being potentially life threatening. However, it makes many individuals feel self conscious and give people the misconception of bad hygiene. Hyperhydrosis usually begins around the teenage ages and early years of adulthood. Underarm sweat may be very uncomfortable to deal with,  and most people do not know how to stop underarm sweat. Many individuals with hyperhidrosis attempt to just try and ignore it and don’t seek treatment or help.

I have written this article to try and help people who want to know how to stop underarm sweat aware of some of the options available to them.

1. Over-the-counter antiperspirants: People trying to stop underarm sweat often turn to over-the-counter antiperspirants as the first resort.  Look for antiperspirants containing aluminum chloride, these are much more effective than the others

2.Prescription antiperspirants: Over-the-counter antiperspirants often do not work for people with more severe underarm sweat, you can ask your doctor to give you prescription strength antiperspirants if this is the case. These special antiperspirants have aluminum chloride hexahydrate, a much more effective version of regular  aluminum chloride. It should be noted that side effects including severe skin irritation or a burning sensation can occur with the use of prescription antiperspirants.

3. Iontophoresis: This procedure involves running electricity directly through the skin with the use of tap water.

4. Botox: The FDA just recently approved using injections of Botox as a method of treatment to stop underarm sweat. Using Botox to stop underarm sweat involves many injections of  into each of the underarms. People considering this option should be aware that this is an effective treatment but not permanent. The effects typically last around 4-6 months. After this period, you will need to receive injections again to maintain the results.

I hope this has given you a better idea of the many options available to you and a better idea of how to stop underarm sweat.
