Man Goes on Killer Rampage After Becoming Frustrated by Hair Loss

steroids poster hair loss violenceIn another tragic case of hair loss causing serious psychological problems, a Florida man has been killed by police after he went on a rampage at his South Florida apartment building, killing six people. According to a man who knew the killer Pedro Vargas, he was frustrated due to hair loss from steroids amongst other problems.

The 42 year old man, who lived in the Miami suburb of Hialeah with his elderly mother, apparently rarely spoke with others in the neighbourhood and confided to a man who used the same gym that he liked to work out his anger by lifting weights.

A Tragic Event

Jorge Borgas, in whom Vargas confided, said that the man had experienced problems with women as well as frustration with regards to his baldness, adding: “He’d just say this was the only thing that would keep him normal, pulling out all the anger in the gym.”

Vargas’s shocking actions on Sunday, which saw police exchange gunfire with the killer for eight hours as terrified families hid in their apartments, is amongst many other things a cautionary tale for underestimating the psychological consequences of hair loss.

Psychological Effects of Hair Loss

In recent research carried out by Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (one of the largest university hospitals in Europe) doctors found that hair loss could be an “enormous emotional burden,” that may result in low self-confidence, mental disorders and impaired quality of life.

A survey of 1,500 men by One Poll found that one in seven men say hair loss has affected their relationship. The same survey also found that a third of men dealing with hair loss said that it affected their confidence, with one in ten men saying that they would give up a year of their life for a full head of hair, whilst a quarter were willing to waive a pay rise.

What all this evidence suggests is that hair loss carries with it far more than the immediate implications of thinning hair or a receding hairline. It’s also true that a vast quantity of men are unaware of the help available for them in terms of dealing with hair loss and associated issues, from psychological support to treating the issue itself.

Treatment is Available

For men wishing to treat their hair loss, bespoke hair loss treatment that contains the two medications licensed by the MHRA and approved by the FDA (the UK and US medical regulatory bodies) gives patients the best chance of regrowing thinning hair and halting hair loss.

The two medications – DHT blocker Propecia and topical hair growth stimulator minoxidil – are clinically proven for tackling hair loss. Minoxidil can be tailored in terms of its dose up to a high strength minoxidil cream for stubborn hair loss, meaning that a hair loss specialist can devise a plan specifically for your case of loss.

Alongside the two medications Belgravia supplies a number of treatment boosters to ensure hair is in its best condition possible, and we’re available seven days a week, in person or via email and over the phone to support our patients and deal with any queries they may have. We recognise how difficult hair loss can be to deal with, and aim to help our patients in any way we can.
