Batman Michael Keaton Shows His Receding Hairline On … – Hair loss

micheal keaton hair loss receding hairlineHe was on the streets of New York City filming scenes for his new movie Birdman this week, and Michael Keaton was clearly not concerned about his hair loss as he acted alongside Edward Norton in his latest film, which sees him take up the role of an out of work actor who found fame playing an iconic superhero, who is now preparing to mount a Broadway play to reignite his flagging career.

Batman Balding

Keaton, who played the role of Batman in the 1989 film of the same name, is now 61, and with 65% of men experiencing some degree of hair loss at this age, he is certainly not in the minority. The actor, who has also appeared in such films as Beetlejuice and Toy Story 3, appears to be experiencing male pattern hair loss, which affects 95% of men dealing with hair loss.

Pattern hair loss is a genetic condition that occurs when the predisposition to hair loss due to androgen DHT is passed down from your family tree. DHT causes hair follicles atop the scalp to miniaturise, meaning they produce weaker, wispy hair, and if left untreated over a period of time, hair production ceases altogether.

As hair cannot be regrown after follicles stop producing it altogether it is crucial to begin a hair loss treatment programme before this stage is reached. Using a clinically proven approach, Keaton could have potentially regrown his receding hairline before it reached this noticeable stage, and there is still every chance hair could be regrown where it is thinning,  but not where he is completely bald.

Hair Loss Returns

A treatment plan can be tailored to the exact needs of the individual, and  would need to include at least one medication that has been proven for hair loss, which means the medical regulatory body for the UK, the MHRA, needs to license it, whilst its US equivalent the FDA needs to approve it. Only two medications have this status.

The first, Propecia, comes in a standard daily dose and works by blocking DHT, giving follicles the chance to recover. The second, minoxidil, can be altered in strength to suit the individual, and Keaton would most likely benefit from a high strength minoxidil cream + azelaic acid.

At 12.5%, the high strength cream is considerably stronger than the 5% minoxidil available from the chemist, and by adding ingredients such as azelaic acid which appear to block DHT when applied locally, patients are given the best possible chance of regrowing hair. These medications provide a long term solution providing that treatment is maintained, otherwise hair loss will begin once again.

On top of this, a treatment programme will also contain hair growth boosters, which complement the plan by ensuring hair is at its optimum health and can grow back as quickly as possible. It’s true, you don’t need to be a superhero to regrow your hair!
