Topical Therapy for Psoriasis

Topical medications usually comes in creams and ointments and are applied to the skin and scalp. These are also the usual first line therapy for people with mild case of psoriasis. There are a lot of different approaches possible for topical therapy the most common are corticosteroids or steroids. Topical corticosteroids are now often used in combination with vitamin D analogs such as calcipotriene (Dovonex) or topical retinoids such as tazarotene (Tazorac)

One of the most common skin conditions known to mankind is Psoriasis. This is an auto-immune disease and is most likely related to one’s immune system. A biological preparation is currently in development to eliminate the occurrence of Psoriasis. There are numerous regimens available in the market to treat Psoriasis. Most of them are prescription drugs like Tazarotene. One can find more information online at http://psoriasisbegone.net. Creams and ointments are also available in pharmacies that are effective in eliminating the occurrence of this skin condition. These drugs are effective in medicating Psoriasis. It is vital for patients with chronic psoriatic irritations of the skin to seek a dermatologist.

The most commonly used form of treatment for psoriatic plaques are topical creams or ointments. These topical agents usually contain corticosteroids or “steroids”. Check the ointments if they contain ingredients such as a combination of betamethasone and calcipotriol (a vitamin D3 analogues), desoximetasone, fluocinonide, etc. They work by reducing inflammation, removing the scales and slowing the skin turnover. Carefully read the instructions on how much to use as using too much can cause skin irritation (stinging, burning sensation) and thinning of the skin. Always consult your Doctor for the correct type of ointment (since some are available as OTC Meds) and continue to read on the condition on sites like http://psoriasisbegone.net, google health or WebMD.

Team develops psoriasis drug

Psoriasis is a chronic, non-contagious disease characterized by inflamed lesions covered with silvery-white scabs of dead skin. An auto-immune disease, psoriasis affects at least four million Americans. It is caused by the disturbance in the natural balance between pro-inflammatory signals and signals that inhibit inflammation.

One of the key signals involved in the progression of psoriasis is the Interleukin 17 (IL-17). The research team developed a method to inhibit IL-17 pro-inflammatory signals and proved that their engineered receptor, IL-17R, is highly effective in reducing IL-17 induced inflammatory signals in mice models. Moreover, injection of the receptor into a mouse model with acute human psoriasis eliminated the symptoms, essentially curing the disease.

“Using directed evolution to improve the properties of the IL-17 receptor, we have created engineered mutants that might prove there is a viable treatment for patients with severe psoriasis that do not respond to current drugs,” explains Dr. Amir Aharoni, one of the researchers in BGU’s Department of Life Sciences and the National Institute for Biotechnology in the Negev.

“Since the directed evolution method can be applied to other receptors involved in and cancer, I believe that we are just starting to unravel the potential of this approach,” Aharoni adds.

Directed evolution is an iterative Darwinian optimization process used in whereby the fittest variants are selected from a collection of . Improved variants are identified and isolated by screening or selection for the property of interest. This approach is particularly advantageous in cases in which no prior knowledge of a protein’s mechanism and structure is available.

The other researchers credited in “Directed Evolution of a Soluble Human IL-17A Receptor for the Inhibition of Psoriasis Plaque Formation in a Mouse Model” are BGU’s Dr. Marianna Zaretsky and Teva researchers Dr. Liora Sklair-Tavron, Dr. Joel Kaye and Revital Etzyoni.

Psoriasis treatment diet cure – herbal tea for psoriasis, how to treat psoriasis of the scalp naturally
psoriasis treatment But psoriasis is the disease which has made the spring so popular as a therapeutic aid (ii). Psoriasis is among the most common and most difficult to control of all skin diseases, affecting about 2 percent of the population. It affects men and women equally, and usually appears between the ages of fifteen and thirty.
It generally follows a chronic course of acute flare-ups alternating with periods of remission. Oral psoralen followed by irradiation with ultraviolet A (PUVA) has been shown to effect remission in PPP.5,9 Disadvantages include the need for the patient to attend a dedicated unit on a regular basis, a small incidence of nausea, and the inconvenience of having to protect skin and eyes from sunlight on treatment days. Topical psoralen paint or gel avoids the systemic side effects of oral psoralens. It may, however, be irritating and poorly tolerated.
Unlike systemic PUVA, studies have failed to demonstrate the superiority of topical PUVA over placebo,10,11 although a study comparing topical with systemic PUVA found no significant difference between them.12 PUVA was reported in different trials to be either better5 or worse12 than systemic retinoids at effecting remission. Short-term PUVA, as a maintenance measure following remission brought about by potent topical steroid under occlusion, was not effective in a randomized control trial (RCT), which compared it with no treatment.3 A combination of retinoid and PUVA (re-PUVA) was demonstrated to be superior to PUVA alone in clearing PPP.13 To reduce more severe inflammation, itching and scaling, your doctor may prescribe any of the following topical treatments alone or in combination: These are ointments and creams that are used to treat the disease. There are many types of these ointments.
It is normally combined with other drugs when the disease is in a critical condition. When the case is lenient, the doctors use only the ointments or the cream. Vitamin D analogue is a type of ointment that is used to slow down the skin cell growth. There are also topical cortico steroids that are used to prevent in swelling and suppress the immune system. Topical retinoid, moisturizers, Coal tar and salicylic acid are also other drugs used to treat psoriasis.
With the increased use of biologic medications in treatment of moderate-to-severe psoriasis there has been a shift away from Goeckerman therapy. A 2007 comparative study of psoriasis treatment found Goeckerman therapy to be more efficacious at 12-weeks than biologics. (12) It has also been successfully used in patients who have failed some biologic therapies.(13) Living with Psoriasis? We can help you cope.
Get information on treatments and more. They come in different strengths.
Lower strength steroids may work better on the thin skin of the face, but it takes a much higher strength for elbows or knees. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to label each medication tube with the body part it was prescribed for.

Sometimes acne can form from shaving the vaginal area as it opens and potentially exposes the area to the clogging of pores. Infrequent showering can also cause vaginal irritation. Because of the myriad of sexually transmitted diseases in the world today it is important to closely monitor any irritations in the vaginal area and to seek medical attention if anything seems out of the ordinary. There are some normal kinds of Acne like Blackheads, Whiteheads, Papules, Pustules, Nodules, or Cysts. So, How to cure bumps on Vagina that caused by Pimples or Acne? Dermatologists often have ways of lessening swelling and preventing scarring, such as administering a cortisone shot or by using a plethora of creams, cleansers and lotions. Overall the best cure for acne is regularly cleansing and finding the right facial soaps to keep your skin balancing by identifying whether you have oily, regular or dry skin.

Secondly, the skin bumps on vagina may be caused by Psoriasis: Scaly silvery-white skin bumps on the face (often accompanied by redness) that itch could be psoriasis of the face. Psoriasis is often found on the elbows and knees but can also occur on the vagina, causing itching and flaking and sometimes pain. So, how to cure Psoriasis? Psoriasis cannot be fully cured as it is a reoccurring disease that is chronic in nature. Psoriasis can go into a remission-like phase but reemerges during certain periods thought by many to be induced by excessive stress, alcohol intake or excessive dry skin conditions. Treatments for psoriasis range from cortisone cream to prescription topical ointments typically with a zinc oxide base. Laser treatment is expensive but about 50% effective although can have side effects. Many homeopathic remedies exist that focus on fixing vitamin deficiencies typically found in psoriasis sufferers. Dead sea salt treatments have been said to accelerate the healing process for psoriasis sufferers, however the frequency and quantity of sea salt needed for psoriasis healing baths can become quite expensive.

Thirdly, sometimes we may get skin bumps on Vagina caused by Eczema: Red itchy skin bumps on the Vagina that secrete a clear fluid when scratched to the point of breaking the skin may be an indication that you have eczema. While there is no permanent cure for eczema you can treat eczema with a change in diet, moisturizing treatments with baths and lotions, and reduction of stress over time. It is very important not to scratch your eczema as it is very itchy and it will spread if any of the blister-like bumps are popped open.

Finally, You may think about skin bumps on Vagina caused by Allergies: It is common to experience itchy skin bumps in reaction to allergies from underwear, shaving cream and feminine care products used on the Vagina. It is a good idea that at the first sign of skin irritation that you discontinue use of one product at a time to help troubleshoot the cause of the skin allergy. In addition because of the numerous sexually transmitted diseases that present themselves as something that could be misconstrued as caused by an allergy, it is important to seek medical consult. Skin allergies are generally not life threatening and can often be reduced or cured by identifying and avoiding the allergy, showering to cleanse the area and drinking plenty of water. This will help to cleanse the outside and the inside while avoiding reaggitation of the skin allergy.
