Do Carrots Improve Your Vision? « – lose weight blog

Most of us have been told about the benefits of carrots in improving your vision. Our parents would often tell us eat the carrots as they will help your vision stay strong and make you see in the dark. That’s because carrots are an orange coloured food so it makes it rich in beta-carotene.

But,is there any actual truth in this very common held belief that carrots are good for your eyesight?

Well, that depends if your vision problems are due to a deficiency of the nutrient vitamin A,because if it isn’t due to low levels of vitamin A then it doesn’t matter how many carrots you eat you won’t really see much improvement in your vision.

However if your vision is due to low levels of vitamin A,then eating carrots can improve your vision. According to:Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute:‘carrots can improve your eyesight’that’s because carrots are full of beta-carotene that can be converted into vitamin A,which is crucial for good vision.

So it’s because carrots are rich in beta-carotene,and this is a crucial nutrient for eye health,as your body can convert it easily into vitamin A. And studies have found that a lack of vitamin A can be a major cause in poor vision problems and a vitamin A deficiency can even cause blindness.

One vision problem that is caused by a lack of vitamin A is dry eyes.

Dry eyes:is when the eyes can’t produce tears. It makes the eyes extremely dry and very uncomfortable and people often also have swollen eyelids.

However the good news is that if your diet is rich in carrots you will have plenty of the nutrient vitamin A in your body. Vitamin A is known to prevent cataracts and macular degeneration from developing. These 2 eye diseases are the world’s leading cause of blindness.

Carrots not only contain beta-carotene there also rich in lutein. Lutein is an antioxidant which is also another important nutrient for eye care. It’s been found that foods that are rich in lutein increase the pigment density in the macula, that’s the oval-shaped yellow area near the retina of the eye. By protecting the retina you actually lower your risk of getting macular degeneration

But back to carrots, carrots aren’t the only vegetable that contains the important beta-carotene that can help improve your vision. There are other orange-coloured foods rich in beta-carotene,such as pumpkins, squash, sweet potatoes, orange peppers, apricots and cantaloupe, that you can add to your diet to help improve your vision problems.

So to me there is no doubt that a good diet that includes plenty of carrots can help promote overall vision health.
