Often voted one of the sexiest men alive, Brad Pitt has a much-admired face — but you may not know that he sports scars that are a result of many years of acne.

Cameron-Diaz-acne
Cameron Diaz also suffers from Acne
Cameron Diaz is one of many Hollywood stars whose skin is plagued by acne. Acne can occur when too much oil on the face builds up and clogs pores, resulting in pimples that can be tough to hide.

Top acne treatment mistake to avoid:
Not trying an acne treatment long enough! – Skin reacts slowly to treatment. Even if the acne came on fast, it still requires time to heal. That usually takes between two to six weeks, says Barbara R. Reed, MD, a dermatology professor at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver.

LeAnn Rimes Psoriasis
LeAnn Rimes suffers from Psoriasis
The country superstar steps into the spotlight about psoriasis, working closely with the National Psoriasis Foundation.
“Having battled severe psoriasis my whole life, I have gone to great lengths to hide my condition, especially as a performer. Over the years, I’ve had to deal with the emotional and physical toll psoriasis has had on my self-esteem and confidence, but today I no longer let psoriasis define who I am or how I feel about myself.”

Jerry Mathers Psoriasis
Jerry Mathers also suffers from Psoriasis
The former Leave It To Beaver star is a spokesperson for the National Psoriasis Foundation to raise awareness of psoriasis, educate the public about new biologic therapies, and generate hope for people with this serious, lifelong disease.
“Living with psoriasis is no picnic. When you’re covered with flaky, scaly, unsightly skin, it’s difficult to live comfortably. People think it’s contagious and they shun you, which can be humiliating. I want people to know that psoriasis isn’t contagious and that new treatments are just around the corner for those of us with this serious disease.”

Best Rule for Treating Psoriasis on the Hands or Feet
If you have an acute flare-up on your hands or feet, this needs prompt attention. But psoriasis on hands and feet may be somewhat resistant to treatment. So if your first attempts at treatment don’t work, talk with your doctor and keep trying!

Top treatments for Rosacea
While rosacea cannot be cured, medical treatments are available that can control or eliminate its various signs and symptoms.
The signs and symptoms of rosacea vary substantially from one patient to another, and treatment must therefore be tailored by a physician for each individual case. Some patients are troubled by redness and flushing, while others have bumps and pimples, thickening of the skin, or eye rosacea or combinations. For patients with redness and pimples, doctors often prescribe oral antibiotics and topical therapy to bring the condition under immediate control, followed by long-term use of the topical therapy alone to maintain remission.
When appropriate, laser treatment or other surgical procedures may be used to remove visible blood vessels, reduce extensive redness or correct disfigurement of the nose. Eye symptoms are commonly treated with oral antibiotics and ophthalmic therapy.

Morgan-Freeman-Dermatosis-Papulosa-Nigra

Morgan Freeman suffers from Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra

The Academy Award winner is one of many dark-skinned celebrities who have dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPNs) — a unique skin condition that appears as small, dark bumps and most commonly affects the face, neck, chest, and back. The lesions are a type of keratosis that is harmless and will not turn into skin cancer.

Best treatments for Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra
Removal of dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPN) lesions is generally simple, fast and effective. If the lesions are flat, they can be removed with light electrodessication and gauze abrasion. Raised lesions may need to be snipped off. Numbing cream can be applied in advance to make the procedure more comfortable. Antibiotic ointment is applied immediately afterward and twice daily for the following week until the treated areas heal. Patients often find this procedure very satisfying as they see results immediately, it is fast, relatively low risk and generally affordable. Even if every lesion is not removed, patients report notcing that their complexion appears clearer and fresher.

seal Discoid Lupus

Seal suffers from Discoid Lupus

Singer Seal’s face has visible scars from discoid lupus, a chronic skin condition that causes inflamed sores to appear on the skin

There are two main types of treatment for Discoid Lupus:

1.Strong steroid ointments or creams often help but must be used under supervision as they can thin the skin – a side effect that has to be balanced against the risk of the patches scarring if they are under-treated. It is typical to therefore use stronger creams than would be used on the face for commoner conditions such as eczema.
2.Some patients may need anti-malarial tablets – usually one called hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil). These were originally introduced to treat malaria but were found also to have a powerful effect on inflammation and so help to control discoid lupus erythematosus. These tablets usually cause no side effects at the doses that are currently advised, but at high doses there is a small risk to the eye. You should let your doctor know if you have any visual problems; a simple baseline eye test for the sharpness of your vision is advised for all patients, but some who already have eye problems need to be assessed by an eye specialist (see Patient Information Leaflet on Hydroxychloroquine).
