Psoriasis | Scalp Psoriasis – Syrinx ZA Natural Skin Care

Treatment of Scalp ConditionsAugust is Psoriasis Awareness Month so we thought this would be a good time to raise some awareness about scalp psoriasis.

A few facts to start – Like Psoriasis on the skin, scalp psoriasis is not contagious. Most people that have scalp psoriasis usually suffer with psoriasis elsewhere on their body.  Sadly, there is no cure of psoriasis for scalp psoriasis but it can be treated naturally to comfort and normalise the condition

As with most similar skin and scalp conditions, annoyingly the actual cause of scalp psoriasis is not known but it is believed to be due to an abnormality in the immune system.  This faulty system causes skin cells to build up as they grow too fast.  Psoriasis on the scalp can appear in small patches such as behind an ear or it can cover the whole scalp.

Typical Symptoms of Scalp Psoriasis

  • Patches of red skin covered in silvery-white scales
  • Itchy Scalp
  • Temporary Hair Loss
  • Bleeding
  • Burning
  • Flaking scalp
  • Dry scalp

Scratching Your Scalp

Scalp psoriasis can be extremely itchy but please note that scratching will make the psoriasis worse, causing the scalp to bleed, burn and is the main factor of hair loss.  Don’t Scratch – Its easy to say but much more difficult to stop as its almost a natural reflex to scratch and at the time we think it makes us feel better when in fact we are causing more damage – not scratching, can actually help.

Try not to worry as hair loss isn’t permanent; it is usually due to harsh scratching, picking or treatments used. Hair will grow back when the scalp clears.  And of course stress is often a culprit for causing flare-ups so worrying will not do.

How to treat scalp psoriasis

Syrinx Za have included in their Scalp Treatment Therapy, the ingredient Sapropel otherwise known as Zander; which along with other ingredients; reduces swelling and soreness whilst gently cleansing and moisturising the scalp, eradicating itching which can be the first step to normalising your scalp.
