GerdA nagging heartburn, sour taste in your mouth, difficulty in gulping things, hoarseness in your throat , turn your  health diagnostic pointers  to GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). One of the most irritating conditions of the digestive system that has affected 10-20 % of the western world population, this disease is caused by a number of conditions such as eating spicy or acidic foods, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, or delayed emptying of the stomach.

Though acid reflux syndrome is often relieved by over-the counter antacids, if the syndrome happens on an everyday basis, you should not ignore it, but consult your gastroenterologist. Acid reflux occurs due to the inefficient functioning of the esophageal valve at the stomach, due to which food that is once passed into the stomach is forced back along with stomach acids or bile into your esophagus. Consuming a diet that does not provoke the esophageal sphincter is the first and foremost thing that should be followed in the treatment of GERD.
